In May 1940 Germany advanced into France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found. By the end of this heroic mission, 330,000 French, British, Belgian and Dutch soldiers had been safely evacuated.

Writer/director Nolan has crafted a film that will arguably become the definitive cinematic depiction of this remarkable chapter of history.  With its thunderous sound design, Dunkirk assaults the senses, yet minimal dialogue means that large sections of the film play like classic silent cinema.

‘It’s an utterly immersive experience that fulfils Nolan’s promise of creating “virtual reality without the goggles”see it you must’
